The IKON Gallery
The IKON gallery had the Fiona Banner, Scroll Down and Keep Scrolling exhibition. I did not enjoy the visit to this gallery because I didn't really understand the artwork and what was going on. I found it all very confusing and boring and nothing really interested me when I was there. The first floor had a theme of red and blue lighting and text all over a walls. One wall had LED lights that said The Bastard Word, another had red text that was upside down, and the other room was dark with a black and white projection on the wall with sound paying, painted chairs and a black and white artwork piece. The second floor contained a large, clear pole structure, a room with a video of a helicopter playing, a large stack of books, light boxes, and a room filled with posters and books. There was also a swirly staircase where there was a long scroll that started at the second floor and went all the way down to the ground floor, however you could not go down the swirly staircase and see it all which was disappointing. I thought the whole exhibition was quite boring and disappointing overall, I think that the website made it look much better and more interesting with their few photos that they put online when it actually was not that great to me. I enjoyed the lift the most at the IKON because I found it really fun and exciting with the harmonies decreasing as you go down and increasing as you go up
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
The Birmingham Gallery had lots of old ornaments, artefacts and sculptures. When you first walk in you enter a giant circular room that contains different categories of People and Places, Imagining the Past, A Green and Pleasant Land and Forces of Nature. There was one piece that stood out to me which was a painting of a lake and some mountains but the rest of the artwork in the room didn't really peak any interest in me. There were some old cultural and religious artefacts and sculptures that I liked but not much of the artwork there interested me considering how big the museum and gallery is. I found a lot of the artwork and objects quite boring and personally I would have been happy to leave way before we actually left.
These two photographs were of building that I saw whilst walking to the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. The one on the left is of the new library and the one on the right is of a building that is next to the gallery. I took the photo on the right because I liked the graffiti on the building.
