My Visit To the Herbert Art Gallery

I went to the Herbert Art Gallery in Coventry which is in Coventry next to the old and new Cathedrals and by some of the University blocks. I went to the art gallery to view the Elements gallery where they had lots of rocks, crystals and shells that I took pictures of and I did a couple of drawings of them as well. I found out about the element gallery when I went to the gallery during the summer with my little cousin to see The Story of Children's Television from 1946 to Today exhibition and we came across the Elements gallery whilst we were there. When I decided to do crystals, rocks and shells theme I remembered the Elements gallery at the Herbert Art Gallery and thought it would be a good place to go to take some pictures and look at the different crystals, rocks and shells and do some quick drawings whilst I was there. I enjoyed the experience overall, it was quite interactive and had animals and climate things in there as well but that was not very relevant to my theme so I didn't take any photographs of that stuff. There were magnifying glasses which you could use to look at the different crystals and rocks closely, there were some rocks and crystals out of the display boxes so that you could feel them and have a closer look at all of the different angles. They also had fossils and a little station where you could place some paper over the top and colour the paper in and you would get the shape of the fossil on the paper which I did using some oil pastel and chalk. There was also a station with different rocks placed on shelves in the dark and you could press a button the turned on either short-wave UV light or long-wave UV light and you could see the effect the different UV light had on some of the rocks and the colours that showed up. There were also some very large shells out on display that you could touch, feel and look at closely. I found it very interesting and fun to look at. I enjoyed looking at all of the different coloured rocks and crystals and seeing all of the many types of shells and their patterns and textures. The only negative thing I would say is that there was no information on the rocks and crystals, it would have been good to at least have the names of the different crystals and rocks so I could research them at home but they did not have the names either.
